By order of the executor of the estate of the late Emmett Barnes, III we will sell at public auction his superb collection of fine antiques and works of art! Emmett Barnes was an icon in the Macon regional business community and was a pioneer in the effort to rejuvenate downtown Macon beginning in the 1970's. Mr. Barnes amassed a fortune through his insurance business, real estate and the stock market. At one time, he owned 50 downtown Macon commercial properties.
Mr. Barnes and his wife Edwina traveled extensively in Europe, particularly in France and England. They were close personal friends of Edward Marshall Boehm and his wife Helen. According to an executive in the Boehm organization they were considered as "family" to the Boehm's. One of Emmett Barnes' prized possessions was the magnificent "Golden Eagle" created by the Boehm company.
They were also close personal friends with the renown artist, Marcel Dyf. The collection includes two paintings that were painted by Dyf especially for Emmett and Edwina Barnes.
In addition we will sell an outstanding collection of furniture, paintings and works of art from the estate of the late Judson Minyard and Pearl Minyard of Anderson, South Carolina, and a collection of fine furniture from the estate of the late Carl Reid of Sewanee, Tennessee. Mr. Reid was a renown stone mason and built many of the fine stone buildings at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee.
This fabulous collection includes English, French and Italian furniture, paintings, statuary, silver, china, porcelain, oriental rugs and works of art. One highlight is a French Empire bureau plat with bronze ormolu mounts and griffon legs. Mr. Barnes always said that this desk was once owned by Napoleon's sister!
Last but not least is a fabulous collection of exquisite jewelry including a 5.30 ct. diamond solitaire ring.
